Tom Brady, one of the National Football League’s most successful and respected quarterbacks, recently suffered a season-ending knee injury. New England-area newspaper reporter Alan Siegel discussed the injury with Dr. Frank Noyes and several other of the nation’s top sports medicine and knee surgeons.

Samer Hasan, MD, PhD, was recently invited by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan to lecture on “Current Concepts in the Treatment of Glenohumeral Arthritis”. The hour-long Combined Grand Rounds lecture was attended by over 80 orthopaedic surgeons, including physicians from three Detroit area orthopaedic residency programs.

Dr. Hasan is one of the region’s premier shoulder and elbow surgeons. He has published more than forty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Additionally, he serves as an instructor and lecturer for both the AAOS and the Arthroscopy Association of North America and is on the Editorial Board of Arthroscopy. Between 2001 and 2006 he coauthored the review of “What’s New in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery” that is published each January in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the leading orthopaedic journal worldwide.

In 2006, Dr. Hasan was invited to join American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Admission into this society, comprised of the leading national and international Orthopaedic surgeons specializing in surgery of the shoulder and elbow, is by nomination only and based on sustained academic and research contributions to the field. Dr. Hasan is the only ASES member in the Greater Cincinnati area and one of only three members in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Dr. Samer Hasan was recently appointed by American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) to serve on the Publications Committee. The appointment is a two-year term that will conclude at the close of the Annual Meeting in February, 2011.

The Publications Committee is charged with overseeing the development of the organization’s print and electronic media publications including, reviewing proposals from authors, reviewing previously published articles, and developing resources for the use of all AAOS members.

Dr. Hasan will be replacing another Cincinnati SportsMedicine physician; Dr. Vincent. J. Sammarco on the Committee. Dr. Sammarco has been a member of the Publications Committee since 2007.

Houghton College senior Bethany Kowalczyk, a senior striker for the Highlanders, recently became the school’s all-time leading scorer - an amazing feat considering she almost never made it back to the pitch.

Following three previous surgeries and having to miss the entire 2007 season, Bethany finally sought the expertise of Dr. Frank R. Noyes with Cincinnati SportsMedicine - a world renowned knee expert. Her surgery was a complete success and her commitment to her rehabilitation put Bethany back in the game for the 2008 season. Dr. Frank R. Noyes, President and Medical Director of Cincinnati SportsMedicine & Orthopaedic Center and it’s Foundation, was recently honored for his long-time commitment to the faculty and staff at the University of Sao Paulo’s Medical Center by having one of the institutions research and medical libaries named after him. The honor came following Dr. Noyes’ recent visit to the university to serve as their featured speaker at a seminar of South American sportsmedicine and orthopaedic physicians. More than 500 attendees were on hand for the seminar and the subsequent ceremony in honor of Dr. Noyes.The University of Sao Paulo is the largest university in Brazil and is at the leading edge of medical care in South America. It is consistently ranked as one of the top healthcare institutions in South America as well as one of the top 200 hospitals in the world.

Dr. Noyes has been a frequent visitor to Sao Paulo over the years, lending his expertise and experience to the orthopedic division of the medical center and providing medical staff with advanced instructional and surgical procedures for a variety of complex knee surgeries and rehabilitative care protocols.
