Derek Kautzmann earned a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Cincinnati in 2003. Derek also holds certifications in Personal Training from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and Sportsmetrics. Derek received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology in 1994 from Miami University, Oxford.
Derek is a licensed physical therapist in both Ohio and Kentucky. He has clinical experience focusing on the evaluation and treatment of foot and ankle disorders, as well as sport related injuries; including post-surgical rehabilitation of knees, shoulders, hips, wrists and hands. Derek also holds specialty training in work conditioning and work hardening programs, functional capacity examinations, and lumbar spine dysfunction. He also has training which includes the design and implementation of off-season training programs for athletes in an attempt to reduce the incidence of traumatic knee injuries in the female athletes.
Derek has been a five-time Elder Med speaker on topics including: Warm Water Exercise, Exercise Guidelines for Seniors, Osteoporosis, Arthritis, and Health Benefits of Physical Activity.
His guest speaking invitations include: The Council on Aging and he has been interviewed on several occasions by local media and television such as Cincinnati Magazine, WVXU radio and the WXIX morning talk show.
Derek has also been an active personal trainer for the past 10 years working with sport performance and acceleration training for athletes.
Derek joined Cincinnati Sportsmedicine and Orthopaedic Center, Inc. in January 2006. Prior to joining Cincinnati Sportsmedicine, Derek worked in an outpatient physical therapy clinic in the Cincinnati area.
Derek was born in Chicago, Illinois and at the age of three his family relocated in Cincinnati. Although he has called the tri-state area home for over thirty-five years, he remains a Chicago Cubs fan at heart.
When not working, Derek enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. He is an avid outdoorsman and when not spending time with his boys at sporting events, you will find him fishing.
