The Rehabilitation Department at Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopaedic Center boasts an experienced dedicated staff of thirteen licensed physical therapists, one physical therapist assistant and twelve certified athletic trainers working at all five Center offices. All staff are licensed in Ohio and Kentucky.
Our physical therapy staff have advanced educational degrees and specialization certifications! They average at least ten years of experience (many with over 20 years) of working exclusively with orthopaedic and sportsmedicine patients! Many of our physical therapists are also certified athletic trainers, have specialized post graduate education in sportsmedicine and orthopaedics, have advanced degrees at the master’s level or have achieved board certification as specialists in sportsmedicine and are certified strength and conditioning specialists.
Our staff never stop learning….or teaching! Many of our rehabilitation staff are nationally recognized educators and present at a variety of continuing education programs. Our Center is recognized as being a leader in education by over twenty University based physical therapy training programs who offer their students internships at our Center. Our physical therapists, athletic trainers and assistants keep up-to-date on the latest rehabilitation advances by attending a variety of continuing education programs and then sharing their knowledge with their peers. All of our rehabilitation staff participate in mandatory Center peer continuing education program including journal clubs and teaching conferences and are always welcome to participate in our physician surgeon lecture series (twice a week) specifically designed for our sportsmedicine fellows. Our library is stocked with current releases of the latest text books in orthopaedics and physical therapy as well as every professional peer reviewed journal. Our Center’s focus is on education and you can be assured that your rehabilitation staff stay current in their field in a variety of ways

OUR TEAM APPROACH IS ALL ABOUT YOU
The team approach used by the Rehabilitation Department means that your surgeon, physical therapist and athletic trainer work together to design the best rehabilitation program for you to return to your desired activity. If your physician refers you to physical therapy, you will be interviewed and evaluated by a physical therapist. The physical therapist will evaluate you to help determine the cause of your pain and injury. The evaluation will include a review of your history and the results of the tests your surgeon may have performed, an interview with you about your injury, limitations and pain, and a clinical evaluation of the range of motion, strength, neurological status, ligament integrity and movement patterns that may be affected by your injury. Following this your physical therapist will outline a plan of care to help you return to your desired activities.
YOUR TREATMENT PROGRAM
Your treatment program will offer many options to help you achieve your goals and can include exercises for stretching, strengthening, balance, endurance and functional training aimed at your desired activity. Your program may also include the use of modalities such as:
- Electrical Stimulation to assist with muscle re-education
- Ultrasound for pain management
- Iontophoresis for anti-inflammatory treatment.
Your physical therapy team also has many other exercise options to use as part of your treatment. While participating in therapy you may perform strength exercises on our
- Biodex Cable System is designed for unlimited upper extremity functional exercises
- Quantum leg strength equipment offers counter balanced movement arm that minimizes starting resistance
- You can work on balance activities on either our Biodex Stabilometer System or any of ourFitter Balance Boards. The Biodex Balance System SD has been designed to meet the needs of everyone looking to improve balance, increase agility, develop muscle tone and treat a wide variety of pathologies.
- Biodex RTM Treadmills – The RTM 600 Rehabilitation Treadmill is the only treadmill to offer a true zero starting speed, 1/10 mph speed increments over a range of 0-10 mph, plus powered incline and decline in both forward and reverse directions. Extremely versatile and perfect for exercise with acute post-operative, neurologic, pediatric, cardiopulmonary, respiratory, orthopedic/sports medicine and older adult patients in need of strengthening and aerobic conditioning. Whether you need exercise to emphasize specific muscle groups or motions or retro-walking to promote the use of reciprocal muscle groups not normally exercised during forward walking alone this is the treadmill for you. Belt speeds as low as 0.1 mph can accommodate even our most challenged patients. Because of a zero start speed for maximum safety you won’t be afraid and you won’t need to straddle the bed as you begin your exercise. All the features needed for patients from total joints to knee, foot and ankle conditions.
- Range of motion (ROM) programs can be addressed with either the Knee Flexionator or Extensionator by ERMI (End Range of Motion Incorporated).
- Your surgeon and physical therapist may also determine that foot orthotics may be helpful in your rehabilitation. The Footmaxx Forceplate orthotics system is available at our Montgomery and Kentucky offices. You may also be referred to an orthotist when highly specific orthotics are needed for special foot and ankle conditions.
- The Biodex System 4 continues to offer pioneering breakthroughs in neuromuscular testing and rehabilitation technology. Biodex assessments of physical impairments provides patients a fast, effective, documented return to function and are indicated for many of our shoulder and knee patients looking for definitive assurance that you’ve achieved full strength for return to activities of daily living, sports or work activities. Progressive and interactive features allow your therapist to carefully monitor your activity. Dynamic and static muscle loading environments provide unlimited combinations of technique and application
The Rehabilitation Staff at CSMOC assures you that we will use all of our expert training and skill to use all of the equipment available to make your rehabilitation fun, safe and to achieve the best possible outcome for your recovery.
